laundry, laundry, laundry

I've enjoyed reading blogs with this topic on Wednesdays, so I want to play along today. I have finally figured out a way to get a handle on laundry. I hate thinking about laundry, I hate having loads of laundry in the baskets to be washed, I hate having piles of laundry on my chair to be folded, and I hate doing laundry every single day! So, I decided about a month ago to set a couple of days aside a week for laundry. I focused on laundry from the time I got up in the morning until it was done, usually late afternoon. It was all washed, dried, and put away. The baskets were empty and my chair no longer held clothes to be put away. This worked, but it didn't take long for me to get tired of doing laundry twice a week, so I tried skipping the Friday laundry day to see if we could last a week without doing laundry. It worked just fine, we all have enough clothes to last us through a week. So now, Monday is my laundry day. The rest of the week I focus on other chores and things that need to be done, while the laundry baskets pile up for another Monday cleaning. Works for me!

Zoe had another field trip yesterday that I went on. We went to the nearby children's museum, and then a public playground to play. The funny moment of the day was when we were receiving instructions in the museum. The lady was telling the children to stay with their chaperones, not to wonder off. A concerned boy raised his hand and asked, "But what if the chaperone wanders away from US?!"

My grandmother's generation set aside Mondays for laundry. That's all they did on Mondays - all. day. long. (She had 6 kids.) If it worked for her, why wouldn't it work for our generation with automatic washers/driers?

I still just do a load a day.

One thing about the 'good old days' is that when it was Laundry Day, nobody expected you to be doing 8,000 other things, as well. You could concentrate on the one task, and it would be done. I'd also guess that those 6 kids, Carol, had a lot fewer clothes than our kids today, LOL!
BTW--Zoe's little class mate sounds like one thinking dude! The sort of person we'd want heading up a disaster management committee in the future--he considers all possibilities!

I try to do the bulk of mine (clothes) over a couple of days (usually Monday and Tues.). But I STILL end up doing at least 1-2 loads (sheets, towels, misc) every day anyway. What is the DEAL?

It's just a big job!

My dryer is so slow, I'd never get it done on just one day. Maybe having clotheslines made the difference for them. I can't imagine handwashing EVERY day, anyways, like they would have had to. It would be nice not to have to think about laundry so much. I always take Sunday off. It's my only break.

My kids can only last a few days with the amount of clothes they have so I do laundry on saturday and wednesday. It also helps that to have a 12 year old to help me with it.

How funny on the kid at the museum. It is a very unique question. :)

I just have to say, guess what? I know you! I served in the NH-Manchester Mission Feb. 99-Aug. 2000. I lived in Bucksport and served the Ellsworth branch summer of 99. (Sis. Harvey, I was the second sister they put back in that area at the time.) I met Zoe when she was just a baby and have seen your trailer! My friend posts w/the Works For Me Wed. group, so I had to check out "Maine Mom" (I miss the countryside). It's so cool how a friend of a friend can make you come across someone you once knew for a few months.

You are one daring soul. I am not yet to the once a week. I have to do a neurotic one-two loads a day to keep on top of the mountain. But you may have just convinced me to hold out for a week to try it.
